This is a plain description of what the optional “anonymized research consent” toggle in Settings actually authorizes. It is entirely separate from using the app itself — declining or withdrawing it never restricts, limits, or degrades any feature.
As of this writing, The OG Labs Ltd has not begun any specific research analysis using journal data. Turning this toggle on records your standing permission for such use to begin in the future, under the terms below. If a specific study or research partner is ever involved, we will name them here and update the version notice at the top of this page before that work begins.
If you consent, research use is limited to:
Your original free-text journal entries — what you actually typed or said — are never included, in any form, regardless of this setting. Your account email, display name, and birth year are also never included; any age reference in research output, if used, is limited to a broad range (e.g. “25–34”), never an exact year.
The intended purpose is understanding patterns in self-reported symptoms and logged treatment context in aggregate — for example, to improve how the app itself organizes or presents information. Consistent with this app's non-diagnostic boundary (see Terms of Service), this data is never used to make or support any diagnostic or medical claim about any individual, and never used for advertising or marketing.
You can withdraw at any time in Settings, with no explanation required and no effect on your account. Withdrawing stops your data from being included in any research activity that has not yet started. It cannot retroactively remove your data from aggregate analysis already completed, or from any output (such as aggregate statistics or a published summary) already produced before you withdrew — by that point your data exists only as part of a combined figure, not as a separate, identifiable record we could extract and delete. Deleting your account entirely (also in Settings) stops all future use immediately and removes your source data, but has the same limit on already-completed aggregate outputs.
If research findings are ever shared externally — with a named research partner, or published — only aggregate-level statistics are shared, never row-level or individual-level data. Any such partner would be bound by confidentiality and data protection terms at least as strict as this policy.
Each consent you grant is recorded with a version identifier. If we materially change what research use means — for example, to include a new category of data — that requires a new consent version, not a silent reinterpretation of your existing one; you would be asked again before it applied to you.
